Nobody wants to hear
A dreamers cry;
They look at dreamers
Like they are telling a lie.
I say I want to be like
Maya Angelou, Gwendolyn Brooks
Alice Walker, Langston Hughes;
They look at me, totally confused.
How can you dare have such a dream!
There us no way in the world
You can possibly rise;
You will always be the same
In familiar eyes.
Most choose to keep their feet
On the ground, and rather than
Pick you up, they pull you right down
If they would only pay attention
To your longings and your sighs;
No doubt, it would help
To open their eyes.
And when I read the American Folktale
I believe it’s no lie;
We truly are “A people who can Fly”
