Beyond the Curtain

I stand at the window,

A curtain between me and the world.

Who am I?

A little girl.

The world is so big.

Yet, I am so small.

Will I ever be able to see it all?

I open the curtain

Just a bit,

I see my world,

A little of it.

As the warm sun

hits my face,

I cannot help

But smile

Who am I?

A child.

The window frames my world.

I am just a little girl.

Beyond this window

I have not traveled far.

There are other places,

I know that there are.

Out of this window,

I can only look,

But the the world comes into view

When I open a book.
